ABC News reported the Chicago Teachers Union's House of Delegates voted Tuesday to suspend the strike, having considered a proposed contract settlement from the district. 

More than 26,000 teachers and support staffers in the union's membership will now have to vote on the agreement.

The end of the strike came as a relief to parents. "I can't even imagine the people who could have possibly even lost their jobs over having to stay home with their kids because they have no alternate care," said Erica Weiss, a mother who had to leave her office in the middle of the work day to bring her back to her finance job in downtown Chicago. "It just put everyone in a pickle."
