Scarlett Johansson Speaks For Obama At DNC
"Avengers" actress Scarlett Johansson spoke today at the Democratic National Convention in support of President Obama. She addressed her low-income upbringing and urged young people to vote.
"Whether we can get health care, afford college, be guaranteed equal pay--all at risk. And that's why I'm here today--to use whatever attention I'm fortunate enough to receive to shed the spotlight on what's at stake for all of us," said Johansson, who also told a personal story about voting as a child with her mother.
Johansson did not speak as much about Obama's policies specifically; rather, she focused on her role as a voter. She did, however, mention Planned Parenthood and Medicaid as something she supported.
"I speak to you not as a representative of young Hollywood, but as a representative of the many millions of young Americans, particularly young women, who depend on public and nonprofit programs to help them survive," said Johansson.
