Romney Gives Obama Campaign More Ammunition With "60 Minutes" Comments

Last night's "60 minutes" pitted incumbent Barack Obama against Republican challenger Mitt Romney in dueling interviews that had both sides hitting hard, but it is Romney's comments that have people and pundits alike talking.
In addition to suggesting the emergency room as a viable solution to uninsured Americans,
“Well, we do provide care for people who don’t have insurance,” Romney told interviewer Scott Pelley. “If someone has a heart attack, they don’t sit in their apartment and — and die. We pick them up in an ambulance, and take them to the hospital, and give them care. And different states have different ways of providing for that care,”
Romney also stated that he thinks it’s fair for his tax rate to be lower than that of someone making $50,000 a year because his earnings come from investments, which should be encouraged.
The Obama campaign is capitalizing on Romney's foibles and today released their first ad highlighting Romney's controversial remarks caught on camera that condemned the 47% of Americans that don't pay federal income taxes. Currently airing only in Ohio, campaign officials may decide to release the ad in other battleground states as the week progresses.
A new poll indicates the Republican contender is behind President Barack Obama by five percentage points in Ohio--the survey taken before the contentious clip of Romney at a May fundraiser held in Boca Raton was revealed. It will be interesting to see if the unveiling of this ad will widen that gap.
Obama's slight lead over Romney is not limited to Ohio. According to more polls released over the weekend and today, the president is leading Romney in most battleground states--especially with the hot-button issue of Medicare. And with those states determining the outcome of the 2012 election it seems Romney has a lot of stumping to do in the less than 7 weeks ahead.
