Move Over, "Amazing Race," It's Time for "The Voice" To Take Over
As the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards approach, the nominees for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program are among the many awaiting Sunday’s big reveal.
The nominees are: “The Amazing Race” on CBS, “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC, “Project Runway” on Lifetime, “So You Think You Can Dance” on FOX, “Top Chef” on Bravo, and “The Voice” on NBC.
Every year (excluding 2010), “The Amazing Race” has somehow pulled the title in this category, beating out fan favorites like “American Idol” and “Project Runway.” In 2010, “Top Chef” was able to snag a remarkable victory and shatter the streak “Race” had shockingly developed since the title was created in 2003.
However, this year marks the start of a new era. Gone are the times when CBS’s contribution would assume the win and fulfill the boring expectation of coming out on top. This year, there is NBC’s “The Voice.”
This is the first time “The Voice” has been nominated for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program and has
Judging by “American Idol”’s lack of achievement and similarities to “The Voice” – both being singing competitions with celebrity judges - it can be too hastily presumed that the latter will merely follow where the precursor left off, as but a bitter nomination.
Nonetheless, “The Voice” has a sturdy yet unconventional format, an extra kick that “American Idol” just could never manage to acquire.
The judges on the show are Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, and Christina Aguilera – all famous and adored by the general public for their personalities and singing talent. The only thing “The Amazing Race” really offers for appeal is that their game show involves traveling internationally.
With fresh material coming in to take over, the finish line is in sight for “The Voice,” hopefully leaving “The Amazing Race” in the dust.
Make sure to tune in on September 23rd on ABC to see which show takes home the title.
