The Queen of Pop got political at her concert in Washington, D.C. on Monday. In her long speech Madonna encouraged her fans to vote for Barack Obama. She started her speech by referring to Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. who “fought for freedom” and how Obama is doing the same today.

“We have a black Muslim in the White House. Now that’s some amazing s--t,” she said. “It means there is hope in this country. And Obama is fighting for gay rights, so support the man, goddamnit.”

The pop icon then stripped down to her underwear to show off the word “Obama” stenciled on her back, which she also showed off at her concert in New York City earlier in the month. She also promised, “When Obama is in the White House for a second term I’ll take it all off.”

Calling the president a “black muslim” confused many and sparked controversy. Some wondered if she was joking, others called her out on the fact that Obama is Christian and even speculated that her words hurt Obama’s campaign.

The “Like a Virgin” singer recently clarified her choice of words referring to the president in a statement reported by the New York Post. “I was being ironic. Yes, I know Obama is not a Muslim -- though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is,” she said. “ And what if he were? The point I was making is that a good man is a good man, no matter who he prays to. I don’t care what religion Obama is -- nor should anyone else in America.”

Madonna isn’t the only celebrity who needs to work on her line delivery. Nicki Minaj confused everyone on Twitter at the beginning of the month when she sarcastically tweeted, “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney. You lazy b----es be f---ing up the economy.”

Madonna and Minaj are among the numerous celebrities who have openly endorsed Obama for reelection including Jay-Z, Beyonce, George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson and Demi Moore.
