Demonstrators in Libya stormed militia compounds in Benghazi, seizing the headquarters of the Ansar al-Sharia militia.

The protesters evicted the militia from the bases Friday night, chanting “Libya, Libya.” Ansar al-Sharia has been linked to the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that resulted in the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

The protesters displayed anger at both the attack on the consulate and also at Libya’s rampant militias, composed of remnants of the forces that fought Gadhafi. Ansar al-Sharia attempted to disperse the crowd, but was overwhelmed by protesters shouting, “No to militias.”
