Last Surge Troops Leave Afghanistan

The last of the troops from the surge two years ago have left Afghanistan for home, according to the Huffington Post.

Two years ago, President Barack Obama ordered 33,000 more troops to the country to defend against Taliban violence.

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Thursday that the "surge did accomplish its objectives of reversing the Taliban momentum on the battlefield and dramatically increase the size and capability of the Afghan national security forces.
