Joe Montgomery, resident of Manhattan, Kansas, withdrew his petition arguing that President Obama should be removed from the ballot in November.

Montgomery had filed the petition this week on the basis of the status of President Obama’s citizenship. The state election authorities afterward sought a certified copy of President Obama’s birth certificate, a search that will not stop though the ballot initiative has been dropped.

Montgomery dropped his petition as a result of the negative public reaction in response to it.
