Paul Ryan, the Republican Party nominee for vice president, has had his share of ups and downs during the 2012 presidential campaign, but has he helped the Republican Party Ticket?

After Romney chose Ryan as his running mate, there was a 1 percent increase, from 46 to 47 percent, among those registered voters who preferred Romney, as reported in a Gallup Poll.

This implies the unlikelihood that Ryan altered Republican’s chances.

However, this does not mean Ryan has not had his good moments.

When thinking of what Ryan’s best moment has been so far in the campaign, it is hard not to reference his acceptance speech during the Republican National Convention.

During the speech, Ryan took multiple jabs at both the Democratic campaign and President Barack Obama’s performance. In his speech, Ryan claimed Obama was “experienced” at wasting money, and received wide applause.

Ryan’s acceptance speech looked promising for the Republicans, as it was cited by many sources as the highlight of the convention.

However, even after Ryan’s powerful RNC speech the polls remained the same.

Before the convention, Romney was favored by 47 percent of registered voters and after the convention his lead slightly decreased down to 46 percent, according to a Gallup Poll.

Just days before this acceptance speech, Ryan had one of his worst moments during the campaign.

In an interview with WJHL-TV in Virginia, Ryan said, “I’m very proud of my pro-life record… the method of conception doesn’t change the definition of life.”

Many people took this statement to mean that Ryan believes rape does not excuse abortion.

Additionally, Ryan recently had by far his worst moment on the campaign.

On Friday in Iowa, Ryan was booed, not once, but multiple times during his speech at an AARP convention.

First, he was booed for criticizing “Obamacare.”  He was furthered booed after suggesting a repeal to “Obamacare.”

The booing persisted as he stated Obama’s law “turned Medicare into a piggy bank for ‘Obamacare.’”

However, it should be noted that he gave this speech a mere four days after Romeny’s comments regarding “47 percent of Americans” went public.

Nonetheless, the sentiment at the AARP was clearly overall much more negative than positive.

So how is Ryan doing as a running mate? In light of recent events, with Romney’s statement, it’s difficult to tell whether or not Ryan will help or hurt the Republican ticket.

Thus far it seems Ryan’s status as a running mate does little to bolster the overall votes for Romney in the 2012 Election.
