Ryan spoke to a crowd of 2,000 people, touting his and his running mate Mitt Romney’s support for the military.

Although Colorado College junior Isabel Norwood goes to school just a few miles away from America the Beautiful Park, she did not join Ryan supporters at the event.

“I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the event," she said. "I’ve been busy with school and finals. Also, advertising for the event didn’t reach me as a student. Since Colorado is a swing state, there have been a lot of visits from politicians."

Colorado is considered a crucial swing state for the 2012 presidential race. Both presidential hopeful Romney and President Barack Obama are seeking the state’s nine electoral votes that could decide the election.

As a fellow for the Obama presidential campaign, Norwood said she had little reason to attend Ryan’s rally.

“If I were to attend, it would be in protest of his visit,” she said.

Raised in a family of Democrats, Norwood has always identified with liberal stances and is glad to be able to work on the president’s re-election campaign.

“I wanted to work as a fellow for the Obama campaign because I’ve always been a part of the Colorado College Democrats student group and wanted to get more involved. I figured the opportunity would only come around once while I’m in college and have the time to do it,” she said.

While volunteering, she has worked to encourage undecided and unregistered voters to re-elect the president.

“I’ve mostly been working with kids from Colorado College to expand the liberal voter base by registering college kids to vote,” she said.

Norwood said she is particularly drawn to the Obama campaign as a young woman.

“Being a young person and a student, I see the importance of Pell grants, which could be cut by Romney, and the importance of the extension of the Affordable Health Care act so young people can stay on their parents’ health insurance until they are 26.  Democratic beliefs are also more in line with mine with regards to women’s issues such as abortion and birth control,” she said.

“These are all political issues that have a huge affect on my life."
