In a mine in the northern state of Coahuila, men were trapped under 100 tons of coal and rock that had collapsed.

Around 200 miners were in the mine at the time, and although most were evacuated, seven remained trapped. Of those, only one was rescued. The bodies of the six trapped miners were recovered by a rescue team.

This accident happened close to El Progreso mine, the site of a methane gas blast last week that killed seven people.

An investigation will be launched into the cause(s) of the newer accident.
