Officer, Gunman Among 3 Dead In Shooting Near Texas A&M

The three people killed were the constable, the gunman authorities say fired shots at police officers and an unidentified civilian, a spokeswoman with the College Station Police Department said. The shootout unfolded around noon about two blocks from the Texas A&M campus.
The constable killed in the shooting was identified as Brian Bachmann, The New York Times reported. Police said Bachmann was shot after approaching the house of the gunman, who was not identified.
"He was a pillar in this community, and it's sad and tragic that we've lost him today," said Scott McCollum, assistant chief with the College Station police department.
Witnesses said the gunman opened fire with what appeared to be an automatic weapon before he was shot by authorities. The gunman died after he was taken into custody.
A 65-year-old man was the third person killed, while a woman and three law enforcement officers were injured, CBS News reported. Two injured officers were hospitalized and the woman was undergoing surgery, Jon Agnew with the Bryan Police Department said.
Police say the gunman was being served an eviction notice before he fired at law enforcement officials. Texas A&M sent out alert warnings to students urging them to stay away from the area.

Rigo Cisneros, 40, an Army medic who served a tour in Afghanistan, observed the shooting from his home across the street.
“After the fourth or fifth shot I stuck my head out the door and could hear actual gun fire,” he said by telephone. “I took cover and observed that there was an officer down.”
In a video taken by Rico Cisneros and provided to The New York Times, police officers with weapons drawn are seen moving in on a white, one-story home screaming, “Do not move; do not move,” an officer yells at one point. “If you move, you are dead.”
A university spokeswoman said most students were not on campus Monday and that the fall semester does not begin until Aug. 27. College Station is about 90 miles northwest of Houston.
