Libya's National Assembly Takes Power

The 200-member congress, which was elected in July, was sworn into power in Tripoli by the National Transitional Council. The council has ruled the North African nation since Muammar Gaddafi fell from power a year ago.
Of the 200 seats, 80 are held by members of political parties, including 39 members of a liberal coalition led by Mahmoud Jibril, a wartime rebel prime minister. The other 120 seats are held by independents.
While the political transition was peaceful, violence has escalated in the weeks leading up to the hand-over of power, including car bombs, grenades and rocket attacks.
"Security is top of the agenda for whoever will be coming into power," Deputy Prime Minister Mustafa Abu Shagour said.
