Headliners Boys Noize and Skrillex brought the party late into the night (the latter in a massive mothership stage piece), but both days were packed with solid sets from both EDM mainstays and unexpected acts — British rock band Bloc Party played one of the best sets of either day, digging deep into their back catelogue in one of their first performances since they stopped touring in support of their 2008 album "Intimacy."

Other highlights included Little Dragon's bubbly Friday set, Bloody Beetroots' rowdy Saturday show, and James Murphy's charmingly retro (he spun vinyl!) throwback Saturday festival closer DJ set. 

Another perk: the collaboration between HARD and the Metro, which allowed ticket holders to ride the rail lines for free, and also kept the Metro open an extra hour so riders could get back home safely and in good time.

The festival did have its hang ups: NERO's set was plagued with technical difficulties, leading singer Alana Watson to yell "FUCK!" over the mic as the set wrapped up early, but overall, HARD Summer delivered on its promise of fantastic electronic music, just blocks from L.A.'s downtown city center.
