One of the first major construction projects for the Expo Line tracks to Santa Monica will begin on Monday, according to Metro officials.

Crews will restripe the intersections of National Boulevard at Manning Avenue and at Exposition Boulevard. Traffic on the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway offramp to National will also be realigned, according to NBC Los Angeles.

The $1.5 billion Expo Line extension, will allow an estimated 64,000 people to use the line daily upon completion, the Santa Monica Mirror reported.

According to the Metro Website:

“Exposition Transit Corridor, Phase 2 will extend westward to Santa Monica from the Culver City Station (Phase 1, under construction) and run along the old Pacific Electric Exposition right-of-way to 4th St. and Colorado Ave. in downtown Santa Monica.”

The project is scheduled for completion in 2015, the City of Santa Monica reported and use in 2016 the Culver City Patch reported.
