Ecuadorean president Rafael Correa announced in a speech that Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is welcome to stay in his country's embassy for as long as he needs to. Correa also added that despite the "rude, impertinent and unacceptable" UK's threat to invade the embassy, Ecuador was still open to negotiating with the British nation.

The Daily Mail reported that this statement comes days after the bill for policing the embassy was revealed to cost the UK taxpayer £50,000 a day.

Reuters reported that Ecuador is ready to take the dispute to the International Court of Justice in The Hague if Britain refuses to allow safe passage for Assange who on Sunday gave a much lauded speech outside his balcony where he called on President Obama to "stop the witch-hunt against WikiLeaks."
