Three U.S. marines were shot and killed Friday by an Afghan police officer in the Sangin district of the Helmand province. The shooter was a member of the Afghan National Police named Asadullah; he had been helping the Marines train the local police forces.

The marines and Asadullah had shared a meal together earlier in the evening. The shooting was the second to target NATO troops in Afghanistan on Friday alone, bringing the number of American service members killed Friday to 6.
