Forecast for this weekend: Slow. 

With no big titles coming to theaters this weekend, I recommend using this weekend to catch up on the hits of the last few busy weeks: "The Amazing Spiderman," "Brave," "Magic Mike," "Ted," etc. There has also been a steady stream of golden indie films over the last month or so. If you have not yet done so, think about checking out "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Safety Not Guaranteed," "Your Sister's Sister," "Take This Waltz" and "Moonrise Kingdom." 

As far as new films go, the most notable film coming to theaters near you is Oliver Stone's "Savages." This latest flick from Stone ("Wall Street," "Platoon") tells a complex story focusing on two marijuana growers and involving love triangles, corrupt FBI agents, kidnappings, and scary masks. The buzz concerning "Savages" generally concedes that though the storyline is somewhat sloppy, Stone's signature darkness and intensity certainly comes through. 

The cast may also attract some interest, led by Aaron Johnson ("The Illusionist," "Kick-Ass"), and Taylor Kitsch ("John Carter," "Friday Night Lights"), and also featuring Blake Lively ("The Town," "Gossip Girl"), John Travolta ("Grease," "Pulp Fiction"), Salma Hayek ("Frida"), and Benicio Del Toro ("Snatch," "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas").

Lastly, I wish to bring to attention a small film by the Duplass brothers: "The Do-Deca-Pentathlon." Jay and Mark Duplass made this film in 2008, and had to put in on the shelf to work on "Cyrus" and "Jeff, Who Lives at Home." While those two films have been collecting an indie audience, Mark Duplass has also caught the attention of the film world after his recent acting roles in "Your Sister's Sister," "Safety Not Guaranteed," and "People Like Us." The two brothers' fandom is a small one, but it is steadily growing. if you are among those who have noticed the Duplasses, "The Do-Deca-Pentathlon" may arouse your interest.

The film is a micro-budget production, and visibly so. It focuses on two brothers who compete in their own private Olympics consisting of 25 sporting events. Like the previous Duplass films, "Do-Deca" explores familial relationships: love, frustration, tension, anger, supportiveness––the whole shebang.
