What was to be a fun and festive event turned into a bloodbath Saturday, as a suicide bomber attacked the wedding party of one of Afghanistan's top MPs. 

According to The Guardian, the daughter of MP Ahmad Khan Samangani was getting married and her father, along with many other anti-Taliban and security officials, was in attendance. Samangani, who had survived a previous attempt on his life five years ago, was killed in the attack along with 16 other people, and 43 people were wounded. According to deputy provincial governor Ghulam Sakhi, Samangani had ordered only basic security checks for the wedding guests, so as not to disturb and discomfort the guests.
