The people over at AMC debuted the trailer for season three of “The Walking Dead.” Zombie fans had the opportunity to participate in The Walking Dead Escape, a running obstacle course where everyday citizens would be chased by “walkers” for $75. People who preferred zombies not attached to the popular TV show can also attend a plethora of panels, discussions, and booths dedicated to the undead.

But alas, what was a zombie lover without the money to buy a Comic-Con pass or a $75 ticket to do? The not so rich zombie aficionado participated in the annual San Diego Zombie Walk.

Appropriately held on Friday the 13th, the Zombie Walk is an annual protest for zombie rights.  Participants met up at the Corner of 4th and Broadway and took over the Gaslamp district for about an hour.

The event is thrown by the fans and is supposed to bring awareness to the mistreatment the undead endures. According to the Zombie Walk website:

Zombies have been exploited in entertainment and media for too long! The undead deserve equal rights and should be treated as fairly as the living actors who portray us in pictures, television shows, movies, and sporting events! We want the right to marry the living as well as the dead. We want access to acceptable memorials should we be offed by rogue zombie hunters; cremating our bodies and/or leaving us by the side of the road isn’t going to cut it anymore. Most importantly, we want a respectable supply of food.

Shunned, starving, and unloved zombies are the past. We, the undead, are the future and we MUST march to secure our rights! While the living occupy for their voices to be heard… we must zombify and it begins during Comic-Con 2012 with America’s Finest Undead at the MARCH FOR UNDEAD RIGHTS!

The event is basically a giant cosplay parade, however, this year’s walk was much bigger than in years past. Fearnet, Capcom, Dark Sky Films, Dread Central and other sponsors teamed up with Zombie Walk organizers to throw an exclusive after-hours zombie party at club Voyeur. The buzz started early with Fearnet extending random invites to Twitter follows and holding giveaways throughout the convention.

Participants donned some creative costumes in the hopes of snagging an invite. There were zombie vampires, undead nurses, and even angry zombie occupiers.

One sign said: "Why do one percent of people get 99 percent of the brains"

The added publicity for this year’s event gave fans the opportunity to have a V.I.P experience without having to shell out a lot of money.
