The suspect in the Colorado shootings, James Holmes, legally purchased 6,000 rounds of ammunition and four guns in the weeks leading up to the shooting.

At a news conference, the police chief of Aurora, Dan Oates, said that his “understanding is all weapons he possessed, he possessed legally. All ammunition he possessed, he possessed legally.”

Holmes used four weapons, full of ammunition, to shoot at a crowd sitting in a midnight premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises.” Agents from the federal bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms are tracing the weapons.

The names of the victims of the shooting were released today as local bomb squads began to disarm the booby traps in Holmes’ apartment.
