More than 10,000 redesigned 2013 Ford Escape SUVs are being recalled in order to fix carpet padding that could get in the way of braking.

Ford Motor Co. said the carpet padding could minimize the space around the brake pedal and cause drivers to hit the side of the break when switching from the accelerator, according to The Washington Post.

The company said that dealers will remove the carpet padding and replace a console trim at no charge. Marcey Zwiebel, a Ford spokeswoman, said the recall covers 8,266 vehicles in the U.S., roughly 2,000 in Canada and a couple hundred in Mexico.

There have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the problem said Zweibel, but that the problem "was discovered through internal evaluations."

The recall is expected to begin July 23, and owners may call the automaker at 866-436-7332.
