In Iraq, bombings killed nine people Tuesday. This new violence comes after the bloodiest day of fighting Iraq has faced in over two years.

Attacks orchestrated in 19 cities yesterday resulted in 116 dead and at least 235 wounded. The bombings and shootings were coordinated, and took place days after al-Qaeda’s announcement that it would renew its offensive against Iraq’s government.

Al-Qaeda has not claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the violence occurred in cities where al-Qaeda is positioned to regain control.

Both the United Nations and the United Sates have condemned the attacks.
