Voting For New President Begins In Egypt

Egyptians voted Saturday for either Hosni Mubarak’s ex-prime minister, Ahmed Shafiq, or an Islamist candidate, Mohamed Morsi, to determine who will become the next president of Egypt.

Voter turnout was not expected to be high, given that Egyptians have voted in several different elections since Mubarak’s removal in February of last year. Also, many do not have confidence that this election will be a fair one.

Saturday was the first of two days of voting.
