“Today’s weak jobs report is devastating news for American workers and American families,” Romney said.

The slow growth and small uptick in jobs was a gift to Romney, who has based his campaign on his ability to fix a flagging economy. That claim was bolstered by former President Bill Clinton, who called Romney's business career "sterling."

Romney painted the numbers as final proof that the Obama administration had failed American citizens.

“It is now clear to everyone that President Obama’s policies have failed to achieve their goals and that the Obama economy is crushing America’s middle class,” Romney said.

He also called the jobs report "bleak," "uniformly bad" and "sputtering," according to the Boston Globe. The Wall Street Journal reported Romney would likely leave unemployment to the states to fix.

The disappointing employment numbers were released just one day after Romney made an appearance at the shuttered Solyndra factory headquarters in Fremont, California.

Solyndra, a failed solar energy company which recieved half-a-billion federal dollars, has become the landmark failure of the Obama administration.

Romney used Solyndra's failure to accuse Obama of "crony capitalism," who argued it sent a dangerous message for American business, that "the best way to get ahead is not with the best ideas, the best technology, the best people and the best marketing, but instead with the best lobbyists."

The press event was not a slam-dunk for the Romney campaign, however. Many of Romney's claims against the handling of the Solyndra scandal didn't check out. According to AP, claims that the White House appointed friends or "cronies,"  interfered with the loan process or lost the money due to reckless investing rather than inherent risk, were all false.

"Press-wise Team Romney flubbed the Fremont event. The campaign refused to tell journalists where the stump-stop would be beforehand. That was silly. Why the secrecy? Romney tried to explain: "I think there are a number of people among the president's team who don't want that story to get out." Wrong. With California Highway Patrol securing the area, clearly the powers-that-be weren't interested in shutting down the Romney campaign stop."
