Rodney King, whose beating by officers of the Los Angeles Police Department sparked a city-wide upheaval in 1992, was found dead in his swimming pool Sunday, CNN reported.

Police received a call from King's fiancee at about 5:25 a.m., which reported King at the bottom of the pool. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and King was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

There have been no preliminary signs of foul play, however police are conducting a drowning investigation and his body will be autopsied.

King was 47.
