Bradbury remains an icon of science fiction (Wikimedia)

Ray Bradbury, the iconic science fiction writer of "Fahrenheit 451" and "The Martian Chronicles," died Wednesday morning in Los Angeles.  He was 91.  

Bradbury had been working as a full-time writer since 1943, his major breakthrough coming with the publication of "The Martian Chronicles" in 1950. 

He remained active as a writer until his death, appearing at many literary events in Los Angeles.
