MTV Movie Awards, Miss USA, "Teen Wolf" Make Up TV Weekend

Just when you thought season finales were over and your DVR and TIVOs could catch a break, cable and broadcast networks are bringing out the TV specials in hopes of big ratings. 

From awards shows to beauty competitions to an impressive Oprah Winfrey booking, there may not be enough time to watch everything.

Here’s a recap of some of the biggest television events this weekend that are sure to grab the attention of many viewers.

1. MTV Movie Awards, 9 p.m., MTV

What other awards show can viewers see The Black Keys perform, honor Emma Stone and Johnny Depp for their movie accomplishments and watch a sneak peek at the biggest summer movies? It must be the MTV Movie Awards, which returns to Los Angeles this weekend. Hosted by Russell Brand, the live show will also feature performances from fun. and Wiz Khalifa. We can also expect sneak previews of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “Magic Mike.” 

2. Adele Live in London, 8 p.m., NBC

Eight-time Grammy award winner Adele has her first network special this Sunday on NBC. Featuring an exclusive interview with “Today” show’s Matt Lauer, the special will also feature six performances from the singer’s “Adele Live at The Royal Albert Hall” concert including her hit songs “Someone Like You” and “Rolling In The Deep.”

3. Miss USA, 9 p.m., NBC

Live from Sin City, Miss USA returns with hosts Andy Cohen and Giuliana Rancic. The beauty competition will have Joe Jonas, Cat Cora, Rob Kardashian, “Fashion Police” George Kotsiopoulos, former “Bachelorette” Ali Fedotowsky and “Celebrity Apprentice” winner Arsenio Hall as judges. In between the swimsuits and dresses, Akon will make time to perform. In addition, Kelly Osborune and “How Do I Look” host Jeannie Mai will serve as commentators throughout the evening. 

4. "Oprah’s Next Chapter" with Neil Patrick Harris, 9 p.m., OWN

This season, Oprah has interviewed everyone from Paula Deen to Whitney Houston’s family to Steven Tyler. This Sunday, Oprah gets an exclusive look inside Neil Patrick Harris’ private life with his fiancé and 18-month-old twins. She visits the couple's home where the two parents open up about coming out as gay men, their decision to have children and the pressure to make their relationship last in Hollywood. 

 

5. "Teen Wolf" Season Two Premiere, 11 p.m., MTV

If you aren’t dead from the Movie Awards, stay tuned for the season two premiere of “Teen Wolf.” In the first episode, watch Jackson refuse to search for Lydia and Scott receives a warning from Argent.
