Known as the “Oscars of Fashion”, the CFDA Awards celebrated its 50th Anniversary at New York’s Lincoln Center. The red carpet was full of fashion risk-takers, and though many risks paid off, just as many fell flat.

Best Dressed:

Lily Collins in Marchesa: The actress’ innovative turtleneck dress embellished with a golden bird was accessorized with gold Zanotti pumps and Swarovski jewelry. Props to her for taking a chance!

Zoe Saldana: Accompanying designer Prabal Gurung, the actress wore a plunging black draped Prabal Gurung dress with sultry mesh cutouts and long sleeves, leaving her hair simple. Gorgeous!

Devin Aoki: The model stunned in a red and black peplum alice + olivia gown with a long train, accessorized with black drop earrings and a low chignon.

Hilary Rhoda in Rebecca Minkoff: The model arrived with designer Rebecca Minkoff and wore a geometric cutout dress in shades of blue that popped with a white clutch and strappy tan heels, both by Rebecca Minkoff.

Stacey Bendet: The alice + olivia designer worked a colorful full skirted gown and a black sparkly belt, finished off with a voluminous topknot bun and a radiant smile. Clearly, this designer doesn’t need to take herself too seriously to be a red carpet success.

Worst Dressed:

Gretchen Mol: The model’s pastel blue and yellow dress was ill-fitting and frumpy, and her black strappy suede heels dragged the dress down even further. She’s a beautiful woman, but this look was one of the worst of the night.

Busy Phillips: The actress’ Martin Margiela jumpsuit was unflattering, and the fringed scarf didn’t help. Her green dangle earrings were lovely, but didn’t fit with the rest of the look.

Heather Graham: Periwinkle is a beautiful color for summer, but the actress’ ruffled high-low dress was just too casual for an awards ceremony. Hopefully she can reuse it to wear to the beach.

Doutzen Kroes: The model’s Sophie Theallet halter gown fit her perfectly, but the matching black choker was distracting and ruined the outfit.

Jessica Chastain: Her floaty white Prabal Gurung dress would have looked better on a younger starlet, and made the redheaded actress look as if she was trying too hard.
