Aung San Suu Kyi Accepts Her Nobel Peace Prize

Democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. She gave her acceptance speech Saturday in Oslo, Norway.

Suu Kyi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts in promoting peace and democracy in Burma, also known as Myanmar, but had been kept under house arrest as a prisoner of conscience. However, Suu Kyi has recently been permitted by the Myanmar government to leave the country, and has since embarked on a Europe-wide tour championing universal human rights and reflecting on her own struggles.

After Oslo, Suu Kyi will head to Ireland and the United Kingdom.
