Ann Curry announced she will be leaving the Today show years earlier than she had hoped on Thursday morning's show, USA Today reported.

Curry has a new multiyear contract to lead a seven-person team that will cover the globe's biggest stories, like the uprising in Syria and poverty in America for NBC's news shows NBC Nightly News, Dateline and Rock Center.

Curry has been a co-host on the show for one year and there have been reports she lacked chemistry with co-host Matt Lauer.

"You know, Matt and I have had great on-air chemistry for 14 years," Curry said. "That said, I just finished my freshman year as co-host. In every single co-host's first year, there have been kinks to be worked out, and perhaps I deserve as much blame for that as anyone."

NBC has long dominated the morning news market but the network's 16-year winning streak was broken in April by ABC's Good Morning America. It has taken three additional weeks since then.
