Las Vegas casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson is willing to do "whatever it takes" to prevent President Obama's reelection, including "limitless" donations to pro-Romney organizations, according to information revealed to Forbes. Adelson, who was the stalwart supporter of Newt Gingrich and the one man responsible for keeping the former Speaker active in the race as long as he had been, is a Greater Israel hawk who has expressed concerns that Obama is not doing enough for Israel's security. Also, despite the fact that the president has cut government jobs and done nothing to regulate the gaming industry that made him one of the world's richest men, Adelson fears that a second term for Obama would put the United States further along the path to socialism.

With the recent Citizens United ruling removing any limits on political donations to groups not directly affiliated with candidates, the CEO of Las Vegas Sands is free to tap into his considerable coffers to try to influence this election. He had previously signaled a possible willingness to spend up to $100 million on this election, and the recent comments to Forbes by a source close to Adelson seem to back this up. Admitting in that same earlier interview that he is "against very wealthy people attempting to or influencing elections," Adelson has chosen a practical rather than principled position, saying that "as long as it's doable, I'm going to do it," and he plans to do it to an unprecedented level, at least for American politics.
