Paterno's widow, Sue, will inherit an initial pension of $10.1 million by the end of May, with the rest paid out over the course of two years.  His family said he has received no special treatment, the calculations done in accordance to the State Employees' Retirement System.

Family spokesman Dan McGinn announced $1.5 million will be donated to various Penn-State or State-college area charities.

Paterno, who died in January at age 85 of lung cancer, quickly became the center of controversy last year, amidst child sex abuse allegations involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.  Paterno's firing in wake of the scandal prompted outrage amongst students and alumni who felt the legendary football coach was treated without respect, reports Reuters.

Paterno had not accessed any of his pension during his tenure, according to the University.  Since Paterno's departure from the school, the pension and a $5.5 million financial package, doled out this spring, will amount to a $19 million sum for the family.
