Going against the wishes of the United Nations Security Council, Iran stated that not only will it continue its production of high grade uranium, but it will also start building two new nuclear power plants in 2013. This was a reversal of an earlier statement that suggested Iran might stop producing the nuclear material.

The decision will further complicate the nuclear talks between Iran and other world powers, which so far have been unsuccessful. While Iran said it only wants to produce civilian nuclear energy, countries like the United States believe that the country is trying to build weapons.

The statement came after Iranian officials turned away United Nations inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency, after the group requested access to the site that is suspected to hold nuclear weapon development.
