The Avengers, the Marvel film with Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and Hawkeye made $200.3 million opening weekend. The movie beat the box office record previously held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 which made $169.2 million, reports The Daily Beast.

The Avengers is the first movie to ever break $200 million in three days.

At midnight, the movie made $18.7 million, $80.5 million Friday, $69.7 million Saturday and approximately $50.1 million Sunday, according to E! Online.

Opening weekend profits were evenly split between younger and older movie goers as well as men and women, reports E!.

One reason the film earned so much money was that half of people who saw it, saw it in 3-D. Many people also saw the movie in IMAX.

Worldwide, the film has already made $641.8 million.
