-Happy belated birthday to Gordie Howe! March 31 was Howe’s 84th birthday. The hockey legend played for the Detroit Red Wings for 25 seasons.
-Congrats to Phoenix Coyote left winger Ray Whitney, who earned his 1,000th point on March 31 against the Anaheim Ducks. The 39-year-old notched an assist during the game.

-Washington Capitals goalie Tomas Vokoun is out with a lower body injury, after playing in the first period of the March 29 game against the Boston Bruins.
-Another goalie, Toronto Maple Leafs’ Jonas Gustavsson, was injured during the March 29 game, when he was hit on the left leg by the puck.
-Buffalo Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff is out with a lower-body injury after he crashed knee-on-knee with Washington Capitals right winger Troy Brouwer during the March 27 game.
-LA Kings GM Dean Lombardi announced that forward Jeff Carter has been diagnosed with a deep bone bruise on his ankle and listed as day-to-day. The injury occurred during the March 29 game against the Calgary Flames.
-Tom Renney, head coach for the Edmonton Oilers, has been fined $10,000 for comments he made criticizing the referees after the 2-0 loss at the Los Angeles Kings on April 2.
Goal of the Week
Wayne Simmonds, forward for the Philadelphia Flyers, scored a goal against the Ottawa Senators with his face. The Flyers ended up losing 4-3 in a shootout. See the March 31 goal here:
