"Titanic" Surpasses $2 Billion In Ticket Sales
Though the film only brought in $11.6 million domestically, "Titanic 3D" opened in China with sales of $58 million, an opening weekend record.
"Titanic" is only the second film to top the $2 billion box office mark. "Avatar" has amassed nearly $2.79 billion worldwide since its 2009 release.
James Cameron, who directed both films, hasn't just been breaking terrestrial records.
In March, the 57-year-old completed the deepest solo dive in human history, reaching a depth of 6.8 miles in the Mariana Trench.
The re-release of "Titanic" comes 100 years after the RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean. Sunday, April 15 marks the anniversary.
