This is summertime music, everybody. The perfect addition to that playlist designed for top down cruising, cold beer sipping and friend gathering under the warm sun. It’s distinctly Californian music and comes courtesy of the Los Angeles based four-piece band, Allah-Lahs, who released an EP this week and celebrated with a live in-store performance at Long Beach’s Fingerprints record store.

“People actually came,” said the band's lead guitarist upon taking the small, intimate stage.

He shouldn’t be surprised. With songs that glide and bop and float atop a mix of influences from 1960’s beach rock, garage rock and 70’s psychedelic tunes, it’s not a wonder why the store was filled with eager, swaying and smiling listeners. The overall sound is at once infectious, positive and mellow, daring you to stay in that bad mood (note: this will be impossible).

The band played each track from its new four-song EP—off of which ‘Tell Me (What’s On Your Mind)’ is the title track and current single. The hour long show provided crowd pleasers like ‘Catamaran’ and ‘Long Journey’ -- each band member equipped with a microphone for a variety of multipart harmonies. On tracks that called for it, a singular or combined voice filled the room to the very high ceilings.

But a few times, voices were deemed unnecessary, as the Allah-Lahs demonstrated their penchant for instrumentals. One such instrumental is ‘Sacred Sands,’ featured on the EP. It’s a 3 minute and 40 second trip to the beach via drum and guitar. The sound and title are perfectly representative of the band’s combined love for music and the coast.
