Staying Stylish For Summer

This isn’t the game World of Warcraft, but the fashion gods have spoken and we must heed their wisdom – lest you wish to slump out of style. Summer is around the corner and designers have undoubtedly prepared for the change of season. But just because the times are changing doesn’t mean you need to ditch styles you’ve picked up on throughout the years. Here are three more trends to keep you up to date and ahead in the fashion game.

Midriff Tops

Whether you like it or not, the midriff is making an appearance on the runway – literally. Show off your skin in style with this number. The midriff top doesn’t call for the exposure of beer bellies and belly buttons. Most of the styles are tasteful and chic. Pair the top with high-waisted shorts, pants or maxi skirts so you’re audience will just get a peek of your mid-section. Think classy, not trashy. Designers, big and small, have embedded midriff tops into their collections. They’ve shown that there is no one-way to do it, too. Dolce & Gabbana’s little floral bralette is feminine, but fun. Whether paired with white or denim, the tailored top is ideal for a cheery, summer day. But designer Roland Mouret took on a completely different approach. Mouret blended two trends into one piece. His elegant design is black with cut-outs along the ribs. The top also has sleeves, making a progressive piece somewhat conservative. You’ll be looking fabulous, with an emphasis on the “ab,” in this summer style.

Monochrome

You’ll be the hottest one-eyed wonder by rocking a one colored number this summer. Color-blocking stole the spotlight throughout the spring runways. Designers went palette crazy – pairing purples with oranges, reds with pinks and blues with greens. But did you ever think that monochromatic garments would take shape in the world of fashion? It’s here and it’s taking over. The color options are unlimited. Dig out your Crayola box from the 90s and sift through the array of colors. It’s time to live up to the creative names we all giggled over as children – Pink Flamingo, Razzmatazz, Periwinkle, Macaroni and Cheese, and Inchworm. The perks of this look? Wearing one color elongates the frame, keeps things simple and allows you to pair two things in your closet that you normally wouldn’t (out of fear of clashing). You can even throw on an extravagant accessory for an additive pop.

Neon Accessory

They say that every cloud has a silver lining. The saying extends to the trends, too, but not because they’re hopeless. Think of the silver lining as something bright in your wardrobe – like a neon accessory, in this case. Michael Kors has a slew of skinny neon wrap belts. For $42 you can get a two-for-one deal – the belts are reversible. One side is neon and the other is patent black, ideal for an inconspicuous ensemble. Before you know it, you’ll be blinding everyone with your impeccable fashion sense (with the help of the strip of electrifyingly bright color).
