With the introduction of Timeline on Facebook, users expressed angst at this new change. Many embraced the reformatting of the media, but

many held out as long as possible, until they were forced to pick that cover photo and jump on the wagon.

Facebook is like our virtual alter ego, and layout and profile pictures are important to the aesthetic of the page. So many are rolling with the Timeline trend and creating impressively creative cover photos.

Websites are even popping up that help users find profile covers to improve the look of their page and create that perfect Internet first impression.

Facebook slowly rolled over the new layout starting in early January, but no deadline has been officially set which forces all 800 million plus users to make the change. When brand name pages began updating their pages about six weeks after the initial switch, reaction to the change was recorded. According to Wildfire Media, a study of 67 brands showed that while likes were up an average of 22%, comments decreased by 6.5% and growth was slower than usual. Wildfire CEO Victoria Ransom attributed the change to the new photo-heavy layout, according to Mashable Business.

It has become a world of it’s own, causing happiness, anger, and starting trends while bringing out everyone’s inner creator. It also demonstrates the personality of the masses, our desire to share our lives with others, but also, our fear of change. Something so simple as reformatting of a social media sight, created such controversy and upset so many people.

Lovers, (and haters) of the new layout took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the change. @mboberek recently tweeted, “Why do bad things have to happen to good people? :’( #facebooktimeline. Some have posted tutorials and helpful hints to assist friends in their switch.

In the modern technical world, society is changing and for now, people can stick to changing their cover photos.
