Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich sharply criticized Fox News this week, claiming the cable news channel displayed favoritism for Mitt Romney during the 2012 Republican primary, according to RealClearPolitics.com. Gingrich also slammed Rupert Murdoch, the chairman and CEO of News Corp., which owns Fox News Channel, claiming Murdoch favors Romney and pushed for the former Massachusetts governor behind the scenes.

RealClearPolitics.com has more:

“I think FOX has been for Romney all the way through,” Gingrich said during the private meeting -- to which RealClearPolitics was granted access -- at Wesley College. “In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than FOX this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of FOX, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of FOX. That’s just a fact.”

Gingrich’s contract as a FOX News contributor was terminated last spring as he geared up for his White House run.

Gingrich also said ABC television commentator George Will, who has been critical of his presidential campaign, harbors a personal jealousy of him as do many former colleagues.

According to the report, the comments were in response to a question from a state Tea Party leader about thd conservative media's treatment of Gingrich’s campaign.

A report from Yahoo! News said that Gingrich plans to attend the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner this month as a guest of CNN.

"The only press events I go to are interesting dinners when the wife insists on it, so we're going to go to the White House Correspondents' dinner because she wants to," Gingrich said. "And we're actually going to go to CNN's table, not Fox."

The former House Speaker is not the only GOP hopeful to criticize Fox News. Rick Santorum, who suspended his presidential campaign this week, has also accused Fox News of a pro-Romney bias. Santorum, a former Fox News contributor, told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade that the network has been "shilling" for Romney "every day."
