New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin is out for the season due to a knee injury. Lin has a chronic meniscal tear in his left knee. The injury will require arthroscopic surgery.

Lin will most likely be out for six weeks, reports The Daily Beast. He will miss the rest of the season and maybe the playoffs.

“I can’t really do much, can’t really cut or jump,” Lin said in a news conference. “So it’s pretty clear that I won’t be able to help the team unless I get this fixed right now. It’s disappointing for me; it’s hard to watch the games. And I think I want to be out there, obviously, more than anything, to help the team.”

Lin quickly rose to fame as the Knicks’ point guard. The term “Linsanity” was created to describe the phenomenon surrounding him.

The Knicks will also be missing star forward Amar’e Stoudemire for another two-three weeks, according to the New York Times.

Without the two, the team may have difficulty hanging onto the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
