A 24-year-old Colombian escort is speaking out about what occurred the night an American Secret Service agent, in the city of Cartagena preparing for an international summit meeting President Obama was scheduled to attend, propositioned her at a club for a night of intercourse.  

The woman, who declined to give her name, told local police officers that she and the agent had agreed upon a price of $800 for her escort services, but when the woman was told to leave the Hotel Caribe the following morning, the agent only wanted to pay her what amounted to about $30 in pesos.  When the woman insisted on higher payment, an argument broke out.  

After intervention by police officers, a hotel security guard, a second escort, and a number of other Americans from the club, the agent gave the woman about $250 in American cash and pesos.

Now that the story has become widely-publicized news, the woman fears retaliation from the agent or the American government, according to a report in the New York Times.

“They never told me they were with Obama,” she said, addressing published reports that some agents may have openly boasted to prostitutes that they were there protecting the president. “They were very discreet.”

The resulting scandal in the United States has produced the dismissal of one agent, while another was permitted to retire and a third’s career hangs in the balance.  As many as ten members from various branches of the armed forces are being investigated for misconduct, amid conflicting reports by the agents and witnesses about the course of events, and whether or not the agents knew the women were prostitutes, or simply club-goers.
