Denver-area residents are hoping for a little precipitation - rain or snow will do - as at least six wildfires have ignited in the region Monday.  The largest fire, which the Associated Press estimates has burned more 4 miles has forced the evacuation of more than 900 homes in the mountains west of Denver.

Unusually dry weather coupled with gusty winds is being blamed for sparking the fires.  The National Weather Service extended a red flag warning for most of eastern Colorado until 9 p.m. Monday night.  The warning means there is a high risk of more fires igniting and/or spreading.

      Smoke from the blaze can be seen from downtown Denver, which only complicated a blowing dust air quality advisory issued earlier in the day by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Authorities now say at least five homes were destroyed by the fires but there are no reports of injuries at this time.
