Super Tuesday: Newt Takes Georgia
Georgia, the biggest prize of Super Tuesday primaries in terms of delegates, went to Newt Gingrich, according to projections by CNN.
He had campaigned vigorously in his home state for the past few weeks, eschewing earlier races in Michigan and Arizona. His hope was that winning in the delegate-rich state would restart his once red-hot candidacy.
The conservative state latched on to Gingrich's message of fiscal responsibility and a strong international presence. A majority of voters in the state labeled themselves as "very conservative" according to exit polls. They also showed Gingrich winning 53 percent of voters 65 and older, and tied with Ron Paul for the largest share of 18-24 demographic.
Georgia has 76 delegates and apportions them based on wins in the different districts. Depending on how strong Gingrich's win is will determine how many he adds to his total.
