La Liga threw up few surprises on Matchweek 29, as Real Madrid and Barcelona continued their tussle at the top of the table, as both clubs earned victories against Real Sociedad and Mallorca respectively.

Higuain opened the scoring in the 6th minute, and Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema both scored twice to give Madrid a comfortable 5-1 victory in the end. Ronaldo is currently the joint-highest scorer (with Lionel Messi) in the La Liga this season, with 35 goals to his name so far. Higuain and Benzema are currently 4th and 5th with 18 and 16 goals to their names, respectively.

Barcelona managed to secure a 2-0 victory against Mallorca at the Iberostar Estadio playing with ten men for the last 30 minutes, as Thiago Alcântara was sent off in the 57th minute for a deliberate handball. Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique scored for the Catalans, as they maintained their pursuit of table-toppers Real Madrid, with six points separating the two clubs.

Getafe came back from a goal down to beat 3rd-place Valencia 3-1 at home, with all four goals being scored in the first 30 minutes of the game. Roberto Soldado opened the scoring for Valencia in the 5th minute, but Getafe were quick to respond, with Pedro Rios and Miku making it 2-1 in Getafe's favor in 24 minutes. Things got worse for Valencia as Bruno scored an own goal in the 30th minute.

Fourth-placed Malaga caught up to Valencia, with goal difference standing as the only separation between the two teams at the moment. Malaga beat Rayo Vallecano 4-2 at the La Rosaleda. Jose Rondon got on the scoresheet twice, while Duda and Enzo Maresca added one goal each for Malaga, while Diego Costa and Trashorras scored for Rayo Vallecano.

Elsewhere, rock-bottom Real Zaragoza pulled off a stunning last-minute victory against Atletico Madrid, with Apoño scoring in the 90th minute. This leaves Zaragoza equal on points with both Racing Santander and Real Sporting in the drop zone, with Granada six points clear in 17th.
