Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, star of MTV's hit show Jersey Shore, traded in fist-pumping for a little rest and relaxation when he checked into rehab Tuesday.

According to TMZ, Sorrentino entered  an inpatient treatment for substance abuse.

Shortly after TMZ broke the news, Sorrentino's reps were quick to deny the substance abuse claims to E! News.

"He has spent the past several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule," said the star's rep.

Following the formal statment by his rep, Sorrentino tweeted in defense of himself saying, "Don't believe everything you read or hear."

Sorrentino's rehab-gate incident comes one day after MTV announced Jersey Shore will return for a sixth season.  According to Reality TV World, the entire cast is expected to return to Seaside Heights, NJ, including a pregnant Snooki.
