With their backs against the ropes in the 2012 Republican primary, Rick Santorum's campaign unveiled a new series of fire and brimstone ads this week likening President Barack Obama to Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and outlining the future of the United States without a GOP victory.

The ad is the first of an eight-part series called "Obamaville," which depicts an essentially apocalyptic future if Obama is reelected in 2012. Obamaville is "more than a town… a cautionary tale," the ad says.

Appearing more like a movie trailer than a political ad, Obamaville appeals to the perceived fears of conservative Americans with regard to Obama's presidency. The ad depicts a "small American town" with struggling small businesses, long hospital lines and skyrocketing gas prices. In the alternate reality, Iran has also obtained nuclear weapons because of Obama.

For dramatic effect, half second-long horror images made popular in contemporary cinema dot the Obamaville ad.

Senior Santorum advisor John Brabender explained the purpose of the ad to CNN.

"It will illustrate how radically life will change for the average American when we have out of control gas prices, the full impact of Obamacare, and the daily nightmare of a nuclear armed Iran," Brabender told CNN.

The first ad can be viewed below:

The remainder of the series will be posted on Santorum's campaign site.
