This season, Miuccia Prada took Miu Miu’s youthful approach to fashion and applied it to tailoring. The label’s Fall 2012 collection was full of menswear-inspired tailoring executed in whimsical colors and prints. Jewel tones like emerald green, turquoise, and dark red dominated the runway, as did wide stripes and plaids. The collection’s businesswear vibe even extended to the shoes, which consisted of neutral platform loafers. The models also carried structured, jewel-toned handbags that gave the collection a retro feel.

The overall look, however, was far more quirky-carousel than serious-businesswoman. Hair was kept sleek and straight and was left down but pulled behind the ears. Makeup completed the looks with pastel turquoise eyeshadow applied from lid to brow accented with heavy black eyeliner and crystals, often extended onto the models’ cheeks and brows. Overall, the looks struck a balance between whimsical and wearable, and, as always, brought Miu Miu’s trademark youthful flair.

The collection also cemented the trend of head-to-toe prints with printed pantsuits, often paired with a blouse in a contrasting pattern or color. A particular standout look was an orange and rust fleur-de-lis printed suit, which was paired with a chunky black and white tie. The collection’s mix of tailoring and zany print was creative and modern, and made Miu Miu a perfect way to draw Paris Fashion Week to a close.
