From “The Cat in the Hat” to “Horton Hears a Who,” Dr. Seuss’ playful rhymes and fanciful tales have ingrained themselves in young and old alike, and today celebrations begin with the release of Universal’s “The Lorax” in 3D and IMAX. 

Starring powerhouse voices such as Taylor Swift, Zac Efron and Danny DeVito, “The Lorax,” is a touching story about the environment that is sure to make the good doctor proud.

Geisel’s birthplace in Massachusetts will also be hosting a celebration at the Springfield Museum on March 3 and his hometown of La Jolla, San Diego will be having its annual birthday celebration at the University of California, San Diego’s Geisel Library. 

Dr. Seuss has been an enduring symbol of advocacy and literacy, as his books inspire thought while providing children with the basic foundations for reading. 

Among his most famous books, “The Cat and the Hat” took a year and a half to write and used only 236 words. It made Dr. Seuss a household name, replacing the famous “Dick and Jane” readers. 

So as you celebrate today, here's a bit of Dr. Seuss wisdom to take away:

"You're off to Great Places! 

Today is your day! 

Your mountain is waiting, 

So... get on your way!"
